Château Bastor Lamontagne 2001

The expressive and elegant nose combines pear and jam aromas. A bottle to be opened in two years time and for many years to go for a gourmet match with a fish in cream sauce. Very pleasant by its aromatic expression (acacia, ripe apricot, orange peel). A great year in Sauternes!

L’avis de notre expert

Very nice year

"2001, a year of late ripening and a cool September followed by an Indian summer that will give the 2001 vintage great purity".

Margaux Reeder

Vintage 2001

The climatic conditions of the 2001 vintage were marked first of all by a very rainy winter. The mild winter then led to an early budburst of the vine. April was rainy with average temperatures and it was not until May and June that hot weather returned without rainfall. After a well-watered July and a warm August, the weather conditions in the month of September were very favourable to the slow and progressive ripening of the grapes, which resulted in concentrated musts of great aromatic complexity. The roasted character of the noble rot explodes that year. The success is there with fat wines, at the same time powerful and fine, whose density is the best guarantee for the future. Le Château

Often described as "modern Sauternes", Château Bastor-Lamontagne favours freshness and harmony. Less concentrated than some of its peers, it is a "relaxed" Sauternes as an aperitif and at the beginning of a meal, which retains all its capacity for ageing thanks to its beautiful freshness.
